Vintage Mystery Reading Challenge Update #2

I continue to knock off book after book in my daunting attempt to cover both Bingo cards as part of the "Golden and Silver Age Vintage Mystery Reading Challenge" sponsored by Bev Hankins at My Reader's Block.  However, I haven't been regularly attaching the scans of my progress on those cards with each post.  So here on one page is the current record of all books read so far in both challenges. As you can see I have quite a way to go on the Silver Age. I'll be focussing on those books for the remainder of this year or else I'll never achieve my goal of filling in both cards.

I've picked up another seven books in the Silver Age categories, but only one book that fit a category on the Golden Age card.  Still that one book gained me my sixth Bingo line. If all goes well it looks like the Golden Age card will be finished in three weeks.  I've selected all the books I just need to read them now without being distracted with books like The Longbow Murder (review posted here) which sadly didn't fit any of the remaining open categories on that card.

If you are participating in this challenge how is your progress?  Have you got at least one Bingo line by now?  I hope so.

Golden Age:  30 books read out of 36 with 6 Bingo lines.

Silver Age:  18 books read out of 36. No Bingo lines so far.  Exactly halfway done.

  1. Looking good, John! No doubts here that you will cover them both.

  2. I'm just doing the Golden card and have read 20 books for it so far this year. I decided to just read what I fancied from the categories and see where it took me. The book I'm reading at the moment will complete my first bingo but I also have 3 or 4 others that just need one more book read. At the end of the year I'm hoping to have completed at least 4. It would be nice to read the whole card but I don't think that's going to be possible. I will say that this has been one of the most fun challenges I've ever participated in.

  3. John, I am not doing so well as you. At this point I would guess maybe I have done 10-15 Golden mysteries and close to 10 Silver. My problem is actually remembering to link them and figure out where they fit on the card. You are doing great, especially considering that you have to match the criteria.

  4. Well done John. It is an impressive collection of reading for the challenges.

  5. John, your Bingo cards look impressive. Silver looks like its going to catch up with Golden very soon. Although I'm not part of this challenge, I can see that I haven't covered many of the categories.

  6. I'm not going to make it this year:( I've focused more on Scot writers this year and not too many vintage mysteries. And what I have read don't fit the squares well. Maybe next year!

  7. Bev of course has us both beat, but I think we are more or less neck and neck chum in the Golden era (I have six left as of this morning) but am slightly ahead of you in the Silver one (not for long by the sound of things) - you'll be unsurprised to know that I'll be tagging you, Mr Norris, in both varieties of the 'reviewed by another challenger' category!
