I was absolutely unfamiliar with her and the hardback reprint editions (no dust jackets) gave no clues to what type of mystery lurked inside. I think I may have to grab up the next one I see.Bev Hankinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01127476456755776574noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-52206478148847723362014-07-18T17:29:03.869-05:002014-07-18T17:29:03.869-05:00Okay, sounds interesting, John. Nobody likes an unpleasant love-addled lady in distress. But of all of Knight's mysteries I've read this one is a real departure for her. It was fascinating to read her work in chronological order. You could see definite growth and maturity the more she wrote and by the 1950s she is also experimenting with narrative structure (allowing the reader to follow the murderer's thoughts, for example, in Death Goes to a Reunion) and characterization as in this book. Now I have to find her books she wrote under the pseudonym "Alan Amos." She's truly one of the underappreciated, if not utterly forgotten, among the GAD era American mystery writers.J F Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06473487417479127354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-69161434753872401862014-07-18T01:48:44.972-05:002014-07-18T01:48:44.972-05:00This sounds absolutely wonderful and unexpected Jo...This sounds absolutely wonderful and unexpected John. Not actually an author I'm familiar with (well, i always say that here at Pretty Sinister - lucky me!) - I really want to get this one. Would a comparison with Millar be fair perhaps?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
