Even classics like Berkeley's THE POISONED CHOCOLATES CASE and C. Daly King's OBELIST AT SEA aren't favorites.

A rare exception would be Leo Bruce's first Sgt. Beef novel, A CASE FOR THREE DETECTIVES where Beef outwits standins for Lord Peter, Father Brown, and Hercule Poirot.

Leyton was on of a small army of largely unknown mystery writers like Brian Flynn, or John Bentley who had fairly long careers, but were virtually forgotten as soon as they were out of print.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-75227662229401627782011-03-16T17:18:24.164-05:002011-03-16T17:18:24.164-05:00Herbert Jenkins published so many mysteries by obs...Herbert Jenkins published so many mysteries by obscure authors. I generally will not finish a book unless I am enjoying it, so that would be that, for me. But I do love the cover. Generally these old covers are just wonderful.Yvettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08919246184376538331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-3952205226639134162011-03-16T11:17:53.223-05:002011-03-16T11:17:53.223-05:00[Andy]

Would be great if someone put together a list of those kind of books!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-59344263999761445002011-03-16T10:55:52.023-05:002011-03-16T10:55:52.023-05:00When I read the title of this post, I was afraid t...When I read the title of this post, I was afraid that the book was going to provide me with an excuse to buy even more detective novels ('cause buying in bulk is cheaper).

Thankfully, the review dampened my initial enthusiasm of the title and cover, and can now continue deluding myself that I possess an unyielding, cast iron self restraint and an unshakable fortitude. ;DTomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03415176301265218101noreply@blogger.com
