I saw her in Moontide with Jean Gabin several months ago and really liked her chemistry with Gabin. A great story, too.

I think I went a bit overboard in summarizing (with some sloppy writing there, too) the first half of the movie. Yet every scene and every line of the cops' life in the city seemed vital to understanding Wilson's mindset. Someone in one of the other reviews of this movie mentioned Mary's mystical control over people and her environment. I wish I had talked about that more. i practically glossed over the last half of the movie. Ah well...J F Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06473487417479127354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-45393296512369754792011-09-09T06:11:10.810-05:002011-09-09T06:11:10.810-05:00Great to read such a detailed analysis of this exc...Great to read such a detailed analysis of this exceptional Noir. In the Eisenschitz biography of Ray it says that the romantic finish between Ryan and Lupino, which the film definitely needs and is clearly working towards even if it was imposed by the studio, may very well have been directed by the lady herself.Sergio (Tipping My Fedora)http://bloodymurder.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-54321230733697321222011-09-08T12:47:39.866-05:002011-09-08T12:47:39.866-05:00Great review, John. She was wonderful.

Robert Ryan is pitch perfect.

I'm not a fan of Nicholas Ray, but thanks for this review anyway.Yvettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08919246184376538331noreply@blogger.com
