I think he suffered because he was writing traditional mysteries at a time when they'd fallen out of favour. I haven't read this one, but I enjoyed your review.Martin Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16082485795280777670noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-14368541265298673212016-02-19T23:20:01.925-06:002016-02-19T23:20:01.925-06:00I saw THE FIFTH CORD many years ago and still reme...I saw THE FIFTH CORD many years ago and still remember some frightening scenes. It's a fairly good Italian thriller, slightly above average in the giallo school. There are many I would NEVER recommend. THE FIFTH CORD is worth checking out. It's been uploaded to YouTube (I know, I know!) a couple of times. One of them is a very sharp copy. So there must be a DVD out there somewhere.J F Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06473487417479127354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-79353464586280704992016-02-19T22:42:44.344-06:002016-02-19T22:42:44.344-06:00Of course I only know about that printing error be...Of course I only know about that printing error because my copy is one with the repeated signatures. Even though the third murder occurs within those missing pages my understanding of the novel was not at all compromised. The novel's focus is always about the two victims and Terry Kendall's death. Bizarrely, the third victim is never talked about after she's dead. So having 25 missing pages didn't really affect the mystery element or the main plot at all. Still, I'd suggest finding a complete book published in the UK and not to buy any US edition unless you can inspect it first.

I guess in Connecticut we were all wannabe drunken teens. I first learned that song when I was in junior high (it was a way to annoy chaperones on long bus rides on our field trips) and it was always about passing around a bottle of beer. I only heard the falling bottle version when I got to college!J F Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06473487417479127354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-1748773551912777112016-02-19T20:30:14.342-06:002016-02-19T20:30:14.342-06:00Always good to see repeated signatures and no one ...Always good to see repeated signatures and no one giving enough of a damn to do a proper printing.

The version of "99 Bottles" I first learned runs as "If one of those bottles should happen to fall/[number] bottles of beer on the wall..."Todd Masonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01815516018079824802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-63954881951051192752016-02-19T16:43:11.957-06:002016-02-19T16:43:11.957-06:00Utterly fascinating (and by the way, for the unini...Utterly fascinating (and by the way, for the uninitiated, Lilo is pronounced 'lie-low' which makes kind of sense, in context). OK then, the UK edition is definitely the one to go - and now I have to find that Franco Nero flick too - you do keep me busy chum - thanks!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
