Even at his most disappointing, I have not ever hated a Paul Halter book. (One of the Halter books I read---Spiral---I took the time to read by painstakingly using on-line translation resources.) It would have been nice if this book was available as a cheaper Kindle book, however. I will have to wait until the book arrives to see what it is like, though.Edward J. I was very much disappointed by this book after having read so much about how brilliant Noel Vindry is at dreaming up ingenious plots. I was genuinely surprised to see that John Pugmire had translated a Vindry book, ordered a copy immediately and read it as soon as it arrived. But based on this book Vindry has a long way to go to impress me. I'm sure all the Paul Halter fans will love this. But I disliked most of the Paul Halter books I've read (one I thoroughly hated) and have given up on him. Perhaps Vindry improved over time. I'm not eager to read any of his other work. The author himself comes off as pretentious in his essays that conclude this edition and he goes overboard in his praise for Leroux' The Mystery of The Yellow Room. Ironically, the most analytical of his essays about the genre was written in 1940 a few years after he had given up on writing detective novels.J F Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06473487417479127354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8787364257168822822.post-28831813553961688162015-05-13T05:27:38.301-05:002015-05-13T05:27:38.301-05:00Also, for a paperback of 152 pages, it is exorbita...Also, for a paperback of 152 pages, it is exorbitantly priced.
